Hay FeverWe only tend to think of hay fever as an allergic condition during the pollen season which can be so debilitating that some sufferers must put their lives on hold until the hay fever season is over.
There are however many other causes of an allergic reaction that could be interpreted as a hay fever attack. Local irritants for instance which include pollution in the home from soaps, detergents, sprays, perfumes, carpet, upholstery and furniture emissions, central heating boiler and cooking gas, dehydration of the nasal passages and so on. The heightened response of the body in hay fever stems also from an overactive immune system from factors including food allergy/intolerance, pathogenic organisms (bacteria, viruses, fungus/Candida and parasites), toxins such as metals (arsenic, cadmium, lead, mercury etc), chemicals (pesticides, herbicides, preservatives etc), radiation (DECT phones, mobiles and masts, air travel etc) and drugs (NSAIDs, steroids, the Pill etc).
The natural treatment to reduce the reaction of hay fever will include addressing the cause/causes which trigger the attack as well as to ensure all the factors for proper support of the immune system are in place including regular aerobic and resistance exercise, an adequate intake of essential amino acids, vitamins, minerals and omega 3 oils, as well as both soluble and insoluble fibre from fruit, vegetable and whole grains, adequate intake of water as well as exposure to sunlight to ensure repair of the affected tissue and the restoration of optimum health.
