"The first week I started the regime the change was amazing. My energy returned, my skin glowed, the aches and pains and heat (inflammation) in my joints went away (almost all), the gastric reflux stopped. People commented on the change in me. I was amazed at how different and positive I felt. So thank you so much." Susie, Plymouth

"I can't speak highly enough of that man, he changed my life". Doreen, Worcester

Schizophrenia

The "sick brain" theory of mental illness by modern Psychiatry and its approach to treatment ranging from powerful drugs to electroshock therapy is nowhere more evident than with schizophrenia.

All emotions are converted into chemicals in the brain, neurotransmitters - acetylcholine, noradrenalin, serotonin, dopamine, histamine etc, to name a few of the major ones - which travel along nerves and eventually reach all organs, glands and cells resulting in the expression of signs and symptoms.

As with all mental and psychological disturbances, schizophrenia has a definite neurotransmitter imbalance component as well as a dietary one.
Problems of nutrient absorption as well as their adequate dietary supply play a very big part in schizophrenia, especially low levels of zinc or high copper, or both, not forgetting the importance of adequate amounts of the Omega 3 fatty acids.

Neurotransmitter balance may be affected by food allergy/intolerance, pathogenic organisms (bacteria, viruses, fungus/Candida and parasites), toxins such as metals (aluminium, lead, mercury, arsenic, cadmium etc), chemicals (pesticides, herbicides, food additives and preservatives etc), radiation (mobiles and phone masts, DECT phones, background radiation, air travel etc), medicinal drugs especially for depression/anxiety and not forgetting emotional highs and lows such as grief, fear, despair, etc from the stresses of life.

Treatment of schizophrenia involves removal of the possible causes and ensuring an adequate supply of the major factors in healing and regeneration such as amino acids, vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids of omega 3 and 6, the friendly bacteria, probiotics and soluble and insoluble fibre from whole grains, fruit and vegetables.
Last but certainly not least is to ensure a plentiful intake of water to avoid dehydration, as well as exposure to sunlight where possible. Sugar and caffeine as well as recreational drugs are perhaps the most deleterious factors in any condition which affects the mood and emotions, especially schizophrenia, and must be avoided at all times.
